If Nina Dobrev has learned anything from her on-screen character, it's to find a signature item for your wardrobe and make it your own. For Elena Gilbert, it's the leather jacket. For Nina, it's the slouchy beret. We spotted the 21-year-old actress wearing three different versions of the trendy piece. We love her unique fashion taste, but our fave thing about Nina is that she's not a label snob. While on a break from the Atlanta set of The Vampire Diares, Nina tweeted, "Venice Beach! Just bought a hat from the boardwalk..Soaking up the last rays of sunshine in California" and included a photo of herself proudly wearing her bargain purchase: a cute blue knit beret. Earlier that weekend, Nina rocked her hippie-chic style with a similar knitted beret in olive while meeting fans with co-stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley and she later tweeted, "Knit hats. Oversized and slouch-y. New obsession...Do it!"

Katerina Graham, resident teen witch of The Vampire Diaries, sat down with Seventeen to chat about her show/real-life bestie Elena (aka our April cover girl Nina Dobrev), getting great bargains, and the hot guys of Mystic Falls. 17: As your character Bonnie, you’re discovering new powers in each episode. Have you had your own amazing discovery in life? Katerina Graham: I think it came this year when I was really able to connect with the fans, and I realized that impact that someone in the industry — whether you’re an actor or an artist — can have. I have an e-mail ( katgrahammusic@gmail.com) that’s set up just for the fans where they write me, and I reply back to every single one of them personally. I got letters everywhere from Romania to Brazil to Japan, and that’s really when I realized that I’m part of something so big and I can do so much with what I’ve been given. I’ve always been involved with charities and things like that, but when I started communicating with the fans and hearing their stories about the lives they lead, it really made an impact on me. 17: How are you most like Bonnie? KG: I’m really like Bonnie in terms of the relationship she has with her friends. She’s protective over her friend Elena, and the real-life relationship between Nina [Dobrev] and myself is the same; I would do anything for her, we’re really close. Actress Spencer Locke has been cast in a guest spot on the CW’s “Vampire Diaries.” Locke will play Amber Bradley, a girl who enters a beauty pageant along with Elena and Caroline. Locke has appeared in the ABC series “Cougar Town,” the film “Resident Evil: Extinction” and the Nick series “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.”

Vampire Diaries execs didn’t have to cut through any bloody red tape to cast David Anders as Elena and Jeremy’s uncle, Jonathan Gilbert. “When we started talking about this role, I immediately thought, ‘What about Sark from Alias?’ executive producer Julie Plec recalls. “We called his agent the next day and the day after that [the deal was] done.” It’s fair to say Anders’ arrival in Mystic Falls will be slightly more complicated. The Alias and Heroes alum makes his debut in the April 15 episode when it comes time for Elena and Jeremy to sell their father’s doctor office. “He has to sign the escrow papers but he isn’t quite ready to give the office up,” explains fellow e.p., Kevin Williamson. “But like everyone else in town, he’s there for something [else].
